St. Vincent de Paul Society

Energized by the awareness that service to our brother or sister in need is in fact an encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ, members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are keenly aware that poverty, suffering and loneliness are present for millions in our communities. For that reason, we collaborate with all who seek to relieve need and address its causes.

Each month our parishioners give so generously to the food collection and the ministry collection jar. It is always stated in the bulletin that your donations serve those in our immediate area, but many of you may not know exactly what the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is, how your donation helps, or how to get involved!

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron St. Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as “Vincentians” are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection and mutually supportive gatherings.  The Society collaborates with other people of good will (other local organizations)  in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.

Specifically, our local SVdP  is made up of St. Joseph's parishioners who serve the those in need in our immediate area by offering a food closet, Thanksgiving baskets, and by conducting in-home visits to get to know the families or individuals to find out how we can serve them--whether it be through paying an electric bill, heating bill, rent, clothing or food (for examples). These small acts of kindness and charity means so much to those we serve.

This is just a brief explanation of what our local St. Vincent de Paul group does. If you would like more information, please call the parish office or visit www.svdpusa.org.  We thank you for supporting those in need in our area. Every dollar you give, goes toward the needs of others. All are welcome to join the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Even if your time is very limited, you can make a difference. This organization is truly living out the words of our Savior, “'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
